Network Daily Operations, Policies, and Procedures

A network administrator is normally responsible for designing, installing and supporting an organizations IT infrastructure. The responsibility of local area network, wide area network, different network segments, and internet  intranet systems also follows under hisher jurisdiction. Therefore for any institution, the network daily operation duties become a must for the smooth running of the IT infrastructure and not forgetting the documentation role. In a nutshell the following duties need to performed on daily basis by the network administrator Perform data backup, update all antivirus programs, monitor network performance, check whether all servers are up and running, check user accounts to ensure they are not locked or have expired passwords, check the switches, routers, hubs etc to ensure they are all powered  finally address any users problems reported with   urgency (Dash 1999).

Network daily operations policies  procedures would include All network components should be kept up to date, there should be a routine network startup and shutdown control records, maintain logs (Network, repair records etc), analyze performance of the equipments to determine the need or repair or replacement, always plan, coordinate  implement network security measure in order to ensure that the data is secure (Data security and integrity), data pertaining to customer needs should gathered  and use this information to identify, predict, interpret and evaluate system and network requirements. Research should be a daily routine so as to be up-to-date with technology. There should be an inventory of parts in case of an emergency repair requirement. Another important policy should be operating a master console to monitor performance of computer systems and networks. This will help to coordinate the computer network access and use. Finally, policies and procedures are essential if an organization needs consistency in its overall daily operations.
